Suggestion for improvement
💡 Word puzzles: use small instead of capital letters for preschoolers
Most of the words we read are in small instead of capital letters, so it is usually recommended to teach preschoolers to sound out small letters before the capital ones.
For mathematics books, the language should be pegged at a lower level than the mathematics concepts. This means if the math is at 5 to 6 years old level, the language should be at 3 to 4 years old.
Teaching Tips
In using this book, you may guide your child with the language.
If your young child isn’t keen to write yet, it is perfectly fine. Let them answer in ways such as:
- hands-on materials
- verbally
- acting it out
- drawing
The key is to focus more on mathematical thinking skills than the language.
As a Singapore math and math olympiad trainer, I would recommend this book.
